Kirk Rothrock
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer
Kirk Rothrock joined CompBenefits in 2003 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He has built on the company's recent growth momentum by realigning resources to focus on the unique needs of specific customer segments. This effort includes expanding CompBenefits' effectiveness to reach a wider array of customers by continuing to build products and clinical networks, as well as bolstering customer service and distribution capabilities.
Mr. Rothrock has 20 years of experience in health care and employee benefits, including sales, sales management, product management, operations management, provider contracting and management, and administration. He has held various executive positions as well. Prior to joining CompBenefits, Mr. Rothrock served as President of Intracorp where his focus on sales and account management processes ultimately drove company earnings to records levels from 1999 to 2002.
Before joining Intracorp, Mr. Rothrock was Senior Vice President for Humana, where he managed a variety of specialty benefits including dental, disability, life insurance, managed worker's compensation, Section 125 Flexible Spending Account administration, and international development.
Prior to joining Humana, Mr. Rothrock served as a Senior Vice President for Managed Care at Employers Health Insurance where his work led to increased sales, effective management, and strengthened relationships with renowned clients.
Additionally, he spent time as Executive Director of The Health Insurance Plan of California, where he served as a public speaker and lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Rothrock has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Pennsylvania State University.
George Dunaway
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
As CompBenefits' Chief Financial Officer, George Dunaway's responsibilities include financial reporting, accounting, commissions and capitations, tax, and treasury. Prior to joining CompBenefits, Mr. Dunaway was the CFO of Matria Healthcare and held a series of financial positions with Dun & Bradstreet.
Mr. Dunaway earned a B.E. (Magna Cum Laude) in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Bruce Mitchell
Executive Vice President and General Counsel
Bruce Mitchell is CompBenefits Corporation's Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He also serves as Corporate Secretary and oversees the Company's Vision Division.
Prior to joining CompBenefits, he was a partner in the law firm of Reinman, Harrell, Mitchell & Wattwood, P.A., located in Melbourne, Florida, where he practiced corporate and securities law with specific emphasis on merger and acquisition transactional activity. Mr. Mitchell has a law degree from the University of Florida and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mary Kay Gilbert
Senior Vice President of Operations
Ms. Gilbert brings CompBenefits nearly 25 years of corporate management expertise. Before joining CompBenefits, Ms. Gilbert served as Vice President of Customer Operations at Cox Communications in New Orleans, where she oversaw the company's customer care activities while helping the company launch several new products. Prior to Cox Communications, Ms. Gilbert was a Vice President at Walt Disney Parks and Resort, managing the company's Disney Reservation Center, which delivers annual gross sales of $1.5 billion. Previously, while with AT&T, Ms. Gilbert led the design, launch, and management of the Universal Card Services business, successfully securing the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for that effort.
Kenneth J. Hammer, D.D.S., M.B.A.
Vice President, National Dental Director
Dr. Hammer has been associated with CompBenefits since 1992. He is currently responsible for all dental network development, contracting, and management activities, including the company's quality and utilization management programs.
Prior to joining CompBenefits, Dr. Hammer practiced general dentistry in Ohio and later held a management position with Oral Health Services in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Hammer earned both a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University. He received an M.B.A. from the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Hammer is also a member of the American Association of Dental Consultants.
Howard J. Braverman, O.D.
President - Vision Division
Dr. Howard Braverman is currently the President of the Vision Division of CompBenefits Corporation. In addition, he is Chief Executive Officer of Ultimate Optical, a wholesale prescription optical company that is part of the CompBenefits family of companies.
Prior to joining CompBenefits, Dr. Braverman was the Chief Executive Officer of Vision Care, Inc. before it was acquired by CompBenefits. Dr. Braverman has practiced optometry for over 28 years in Florida.
Dr. Braverman has served his community and his profession for many years. From 2000 through 2001, he served as President of the American Optometric Association. He also is the Past President of the Southern Council of Optometrists, the Florida Optometric Association, and the Broward County (Florida) Optometric Association. He is a past member and Chairman of the Florida State Board of Optometry.
Dr. Braverman earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami (Fla.) and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston.
Alan Stewart
Executive Vice President
In his current position, Mr. Stewart's responsibilities include oversight of dental and network development and management, vision network development and management, product development, actuarial duties, underwriting, claims, and information technology.
Prior to joining CompBenefits in 2000, Mr. Stewart worked at a major health care provider in the state of Georgia where he was Assistant Vice President/Actuary. He also gained actuarial experience from his employment at The Travelers and Aetna Life and Casualty.
Alan holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina with a double major in Mathematics and Philosophy. He is a member of the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries.
Judith Herron
Senior Vice President of Marketing
Judith Herron brings a diverse background in financial services to CompBenefits. Most recently, Ms. Herron was involved in the launch of CIGNA's dental discount business and private label vision insurance programs. In addition to managing the Marketing function for an Internet-based employee benefits communications firm, Ms. Herron has also held senior marketing positions at GE Capital, Master Card International, and Citibank.
Ms. Herron has a BA and an MBA from New York University.
John E. Lumpkins
Senior Vice President - Sales
John Lumpkins joined CompBenefits in April 2006. He is responsible for leading all strategic sales initiatives for CompBenefits' sales group, as well as enhancing the Company's sales distribution channels.
John brings more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry and a demonstrated ability to profitably grow revenues to CompBenefits. Prior to joining the Company, John served as Southeast Regional Vice President, Small Business Section for United HealthCare in Atlanta where he led a team of more than 100 people to achieve significant growth in both ancillary product sales and new sales with a particular focus on the municipal health insurance market.
Prior to this position, John served as a Vice President in various divisions of Assurant / Fortis / John Alden Life Insurance Company where he ultimately had P&L responsibility for the John Alden small group health insurance product line valued at $800 million. Currently, he holds life and health insurance licenses in Georgia.
John earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. He has completed the Wharton Executive Leadership Program and is a member of the Georgia and the National Association of Health Underwriters.
