A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT AND CEO, KIRK ROTHROCK
The first half of 2006 reflects the continued momentum carried forward from a very productive 2005. Once again, we have experienced renewal rates exceeding the industry average. Strong renewals build confidence and indicate that we are on the right track when it comes to satisfying our customers.
Still we are not ones to rest on our laurels. Since the start of 2006 we have increased support for the dedicated brokers and agents across the US who represent our dental and vision products.
Expanding Our Distribution Channels and Communications
While CompBenefits has a wide breadth of dental products, we are particularly well known for the strength of our Dental HMO. We have now entered into an agreement with AIG that will allow them to also distribute our Dental HMO products to their broker partners. AIG selected our program to pair with their Dental PPO or Indemnity plans and currently offers it through General Agents in 13 states.
In addition, acting on the commitment to do a better job in working with our agent partners, on March 1st, CompBenefits began automatically covering the state-mandated appointment fees for agents currently producing business for us. We believe this will reduce the amount of time agents spend managing their status at their local Department of Insurance and will further simplify their office accounting work.
We have also launched this year a new e-newsletter called "CompBenefits now." This is an agent focused e-mail program that allows us to bring industry news, regulatory updates and new business acquisition ideas, along with other relevant information, to our brokers and agents. We strongly believe that the more you communicate with your business partners the better everyone does at doing the best job possible for clients in the dynamic vision and dental markets we serve.
In addition to encouraging dialogue with our distributors through "CompBenefits now" we have also developed expanded capabilities for our Agent Services Team (AST). Today there is a fully staffed AST at our phone service centers. The team members are focused on ensuring agents find the support they need to get quick answers to questions and fast resolution of client issues. You can reach Agent Services by simply following the prompts on the main CompBenefits number, or you can call the dedicated line directly at 1-888-MYCBNOW (1-888-692-2669). The team in its pilot phase has already had very strong results with 90 percent of the inquiries resolved on the first call. If a phone call isn't convenient the Agent Services Teams also monitors e-mail inquiries at agentservices@compbenefits.com. We promise a response to that within 24 hours. Our agents need to respond to their clients 24 X 7, and we know it's important to give them maximum opportunity to reach us and get responses from us.
Our goal in launching these initiatives has been to find better ways to support the people who believe in our products enough to offer them to their clients. We believe our emphasis on enhancing communications in the field will contribute significantly to our continued momentum and growth.
New Sales Leader Appointed: John Lumpkins, Senior Vice President
One other big change at CompBenefits in this first half of the year is the addition of John Lumpkins to our senior management team. John accepted an appointment as Senior Vice President of Sales back in April and we are seeing positive results already. John is responsible for leading all strategic sales initiatives for CompBenefits' sales group, as well as enhancing the Company's sales distribution channels.
In addition to his 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, John is an energetic sales leader who has a demonstrated ability to profitably grow revenues. Prior to joining CompBenefits, John served as Southeast Regional Vice President, Small Business Section for United HealthCare in Atlanta where he led a team of more than 100 people to achieve significant growth in both ancillary product sales and new sales with a particular focus on the municipal health insurance market.
Developing Innovative Products and Expanding Target Markets
Our wide customer base provides us with the opportunity to build on our success in several different markets. We are particularly focused this year on increasing our ability to effectively serve the benefits needs of public sector employees at all levels and types of government. Our track record of providing effective benefits programs for people who work in public service affords us great credentials to develop the products that will be the next generation of dental and vision benefits for public entities. Enhanced technologies, new combinations of benefit structures and continued focus on consistent service delivery are all areas you should be hearing more about from us.
As the health insurance and healthcare marketplace evolves, we are continually looking for and implementing new strategies, technologies and operations that improve our competitive position. In 2006 we launched an expanded and enhanced Internet site that allows individuals to learn about and purchase dental and vision benefits. CompBenefits Direct offers products nationwide to people who for a variety of reasons do not have access to vision and dental insurance through their employer. Individuals who use this site to purchase their plans can also manage their benefits through the password-protected members only portion of the site.
CompBenefits remains committed to leading the way as a product innovator for dental and vision benefits, expanding our market share and touching the lives of Americans seeking outstanding programs for their individual and family needs.
As the Baby Boomer population ages, we believe there is outstanding growth potential in the future. At CompBenefits, we are poised to effectively capture and manage this growth.
