Kirk Rothrock
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer
Kirk Rothrock joined CompBenefits in 2003 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He is currently Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. He has built on the company's recent growth momentum by realigning resources to focus on the unique needs of specific customer segments. This effort includes expanding CompBenefits' effectiveness to reach a wider array of customers by continuing to build products and clinical networks, as well as bolstering customer service and distribution capabilities.
Mr. Rothrock has 20 years of experience in health care and employee benefits, including sales, sales management, product management, operations management, provider contracting and management, and administration. He has held various executive positions, as well. Prior to joining CompBenefits, Mr. Rothrock served as President of Intracorp, where his focus on sales and account management processes drove company earnings to record levels from 1999 to 2002.
Before joining Intracorp, Mr. Rothrock was Senior Vice President for Humana, where he managed a variety of specialty benefits including dental, disability, life insurance, managed worker's compensation, Section 125 Flexible Spending Account administration, and international development.
Prior to joining Humana, Mr. Rothrock served as a Senior Vice President for Managed Care at Employers Health Insurance where his work led to increased sales, effective management, and strengthened relationships with renowned clients.
Additionally, he spent time as Executive Director of The Health Insurance Plan of California, where he served as a public speaker and lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Rothrock has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Pennsylvania State University.
Stanley Shapiro, D.D.S.
Vice Chairman
Stanley Shapiro, D.D.S., has been Vice Chairman of CompBenefits Corporation since July of 2000. He previously served as President and CEO of Oral Health Services Inc, and he brings more than 25 years experience in the field of ancillary health benefits. Dr. Shapiro combines his clinical experience, practice management, plan development, sales, and marketing expertise to support CompBenefits' customer relations activities.
Dr. Shapiro has held leadership positions in a number of professional organizations and is a graduate of Emory University School of Dentistry.
Scott Hilinski
Scott Hilinski is Managing Director at Nautic Partners where his primary focus is on health care. Mr. Hilinski handles several investment clients, including CompBenefits Corporation, Gaymar Holdings LLC, Geneva Diagnostics Inc., Medegen Holdings Inc., Meridian Health Care Management Inc., Medical Staffing Network Holdings Inc., and Provider HealthNet Services, Inc.
Prior to joining Nautic Partners, Mr. Hilinski served with Fleet Equity Partners, TA Associates, and Deloitte & Touche in health care consulting.
He is a graduate of Harvard College.
Roger Kafker
As Managing Director of TA Associates, Roger Kafker concentrates on management-led buyouts and recapitalizations in growth service businesses, including the financial, consumer, and health care services industries.
Prior to joining TA Associates in 1989, Roger was employed by Bankers Trust Company of New York where he worked on leveraged acquisitions.
In addition to serving on CompBenefits' board, Mr. Kafker serves as a Director of And 1, Cupertino Electric, and EYP Mission Critical Facilities. He also served on the Boards of Affiliated Managers Group, Inc., Allegis Realty Investors LLC (now UBS Realty Investors), ANSYS, Inc., Boron LePore & Associates, Inc., HVL, Inc., Monarch Dental Corporation, and Thomson Advisory Group (now PIMCO Advisors LP).
He received a B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in History from Haverford College (1984) and an M.B.A. with Honors from the Harvard Business School (1989).
Joseph Nolan
Joseph Nolan is a senior principal at the Chicago-based private equity firm GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC. He previously worked in mergers and acquisitions with Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc. Mr. Nolan earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting with honors from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. Mr. Nolan is currently a director of Alliant Resources Group, CompBenefits Corporation, Heritage Golf Group, Province Healthcare, and Student Transportation of America.
Dr. David F. Scott Jr.
Dr. David F. Scott Jr. is the Phillips-Schenck Chair in American Private Enterprise, Executive Director of the Dr. Phillips Institute for the Study of American Business Activity, and Professor of Finance at the University of Central Florida. He has been a member of the University of Central Florida's faculty since l982.
From l977 to l982, he was Area Coordinator, then Head, of the Department of Finance, Insurance, and Business Law at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Dr. Scott served on the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's economic forecasting panel, which generates the Livingston Survey published nationwide by the bank, from 1995 to 2000. He was a member of Florida Trend's Board of Economists from 1995 to 1999. In addition, from 1993 to 1997, he was a member of the editorial board of the Bank Funds Management Report, published by Sheshunoff Information Services Inc.
During l985 to l986, he was President of the Financial Management Association, an international group of 9,000 members. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of FMA from 1986 to 1993. From 1992 to 2001, Dr. Scott was a member of the Investment Committee of the UCF Foundation Inc. He served on the Board of Directors of The Economics Club of Orlando from l984 to l990.
Dr. Scott received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Detroit, and a B.S.B.A. from the University of Akron.
David Klock, Ph.D.
Chairman Emeritus
David Klock is both Chairman Emeritus. In 1993, Dr. Klock led a management buy-out of the Company and was subsequently appointed Chairman and CEO. In 1995, CompBenefits became a public company. In June of 1999, senior management took the Company private through a management buy-out of CompBenefits with GTCR and TA Associates. During his tenure as CEO, CompBenefits has grown from $40 million in revenue to over $300 million in revenue with industry leading profit margins.
Dr. Klock obtained a Doctorate in Finance from the University of Illinois. He then held several academic appointments, including Chairman of the Finance Department at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He took leave from UCF in 1987 to serve as an Insurance Economist at Goldman, Sachs & Co.
Dr. Klock also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Province Healthcare (NYSE: PRV) where he chairs the Audit Committee.
